MCL - User - Intro & Pre Operation Inspection
Introduction
The Maximum Capacity Limiter (MCL) is a cost effective solution to limit the capacity of jib
and winch attachments to below 3 tonne to comply with AS1418.19-2007 Section 2.11.
The MCL load sensor can be calibrated to any capacity so the operator can use their 1
tonne fly jib on a 4 tonne machine without fear of damaging the jib.
The MCL load sensor is installed between the hook and the knuckle to measure the lifted
load. A cable reeler sends the overload signal back to the cabin, where the operator is
notified by an intermittent tone and an overload indicator.
Pre-Operation Inspection
Perform the following inspection of the MCL load sensor before lifting a load with the jib.
Inspect the MCL load sensor spring section shown in red for any signs of cracks or any
other damage. Pay particular attention to the area where the springs bolt onto the top and
bottom attachments, as indicated by the red arrows.
Cracks or damage in the load sensor springs can cause the
load sensor to break when lifting a heavy load. This can cause
the load to drop and may kill or seriously injure personnel
under the load.
