Gen3 - Software - Rotational to 5 Button User Dial Conversion

Gen3 - Software - Rotational to 5 Button User Dial Conversion

Notes
When changing from the older style rotational dial to the new 5 button user dial, a software update needs to be applied so that the display can correctly interpret the button signals.
Previous EQSS Gen 3 systems used a rotary dial for screen navigation and menu selection. The rotary dial has now been superseded with a 5-Button User Control Switch. Changing over from the rotary dial requires a User Control Software update.

To apply the software update after the new user dial has been installed.
Follow the instructions below to apply the update.

Requirements are: Laptop/PC with SD Card reader or USB port and external SD card reader

Steps to apply the software update:

1. Using a ballpoint pen tip or a small screwdriver, remove the SD card from the left side of the display
2. Insert the SD card into the laptop
3. Click on the following update hyperlink  update.tar
4. Download the update.tar file from the google drive to the root directory of the SD card (eg. D:, E:, F:, etc)
Please Note: To download the update file from google drive click on the download icon  in the top right corner

5. Click on the safety remove icon on the system tray to disconnect the SD card
6. Remove the SD card from the laptop/pc and insert into the display
7. Turn the machine on so that the engine is running
8. Wait for the update screen to load
9. After the update is completed, review the update report on the screen and check for any errors (red text)
10. Press the user control dial to reboot the system
11. Once the system has restarted, access the menu system and ensure the new dial is operating correctly

Alternate Approach to the User Control Software update
Customers that have EQSS software already installed on their PCs, also have the option of updating their user Control software via the 'Gen 3 Configuration Tool'.
A more thorough description of how to download and use the Gen 3 Configuration Tool is described in the first half of that Tech Doc.
However, to specifically update the User Control Software, follow the steps below:
 1. Remove the SD card from the Gen3 display and insert into the PC/laptop
 2. Run the Gen-3 Configuration Tool from Start Menu -> All Programs -> EQSS -> Gen-3 Configuration Tool  -> Gen-3 Configuration Tool
 3. Click on Select SD Card, it should bring up a message saying it has found the sd card on drive X: and click OK
 4. Click on the Update tab on the RH side at the top of the screen
 5. The Update Tab will open with various update options

 6. The update can be loaded by clicking on the 'Load New Update' button

  7. A selection screen will open with a 'user-5switch.gpi' choice
 8. Select the 'user-5switch.gpi' file and click 'Save Changes' at the bottom of the screen

 9. Return to the SD Card tab
 10. Click on Save to SD Card, this will bring a popup message explaining how to finish the update, click on OK
 11. Click Safely Remove Hardware from the system tray to safely remove the SD card from the laptop
 12. Insert the SD card into the Gen3 display

 14. Open the Attachment Menu and ensure all the correct attachments are shown on the screen
